Revolutionary Piquetero Tendency (TPR) from
Argentina - Press Release
May 24, 2012
On
Friday May 25, the Popular Assembly of Chaco convokes a demonstration for the
expulsion of the Yankee military base
Capitanich
and Cristina place the Yankee Military Base in a province in flames. From the TPR,
we say: up with the fight of the pensioners, the piqueteros and the Popular Assembly.
Down with the savage austerity, the spying and the Yankee base.
National leader of the Revolutionary Piquetero
Tendency (TPR), Juan Marino, will travel to Chaco to participate in a
demonstration convoked by the Popular Assembly. To contact for interviews, call
011-15-6335-9278 or write an email to sec.prensa.tpr@gmail.com.
On Friday
at 9.30am there will be a demonstration from 25 de Mayo Avenue and Mitre to the
military base, which was installed by the Southern Command Yankee at the
International Airport of Resistencia, in Chaco. The convoking organization is
the Popular Assembly of Chaco integrated by the Class and Combative Movement
(MCC) and the December 20 Movement, among others. Representing the TPR, there
will be Juan Marino, national leader of that political organization that was
called by the Popular Assembly to provide national support to the just struggle
of Chaco’s people.
WE ARE WITH CHACO’S PEOPLE AND AGAINST THE
GOVERNMENTS OF CAPITANICH AND CRISTINA
Considering
the national importance of the call, Juan Marino declared: “It’s a basic
obligation for all argentine workers to support the Popular Assembly’s fight
for the expulsion of the Yankee base of Chaco. While Cristina represses
defending the mega-mining in the whole Cordillera, bleeds the country paying
the foreign debt and negotiates feverishly with the imperialism to associate in
the looting of YPF and Malvinas, the popular demonstration called on by the
Popular Assembly shows us the way to expelled imperialism of our country.
Against the fraud of pseudo-nationalism with a capitalist content personified
on Cristina, the Popular Assembly shows us that the fight against the
imperialism requires the most energetic mobilization against the kirchnerist
government. Therefore, as we said in the public meeting that the TPR organized
in Plaza de Mayo on April 2, from the Revolutionary Piquetero Tendency, we
support the claim of the withdrawal of the Yankee base and we are with the
people of Chaco against the governments of Capitanich and Cristina.
YANKEES PLACE A MILITARY BASE IN CHACO TO
PERSECUTE FIGHTERS AND TO IMPOSE THAT WORKERS MUST PAY THE CAPITALIST CRISIS
At the same
time, when asked about the role of the Yankee base in the geo-political board
of Latin America, Marino answered: “the first thing to understand is that the
base in Chaco is not a coincidence. As correctly denounced our partners of the
Popular Assembly, ‘the installation of this base in Resistencia City is because
of the strategic location respect of the triple frontier, the proximity of the
frontiers with the bordering countries, the natural richness available in the
area (Guaraní and Toba Aquifer, natural reserves, oil fields, etc.) and the
infrastructure available to future similar actions’. So, the Yankee base is
another part of the war machine of imperialism in Latin America. The reality is
that, at least, there are 47 foreign military bases working or being built
connected by air and sea to U.S. Navy Fourth Fleet re-activated since 2008.
Among them, there are five bases that deserve special attention because they
have big airstrips strategically distributed along the Continent: Soto Cano
(Palmerola, Honduras), Palanquero (in Colombia), Mariscal Estigarribia (in
Paraguay), Fortaleza Malvinas -or Mount Pleasant- (operating with impunity in
the Islands that belong to Argentina) and Ascension Island (South Atlantic).
The call that makes the Popular Assembly is just and necessary because we have
to build a great movement for the expulsion of imperialism from all Latin
America”.
CRISTINA’S HUMANS RIGHT POLICY: FROM THE X
PROJECT AND THE ANTI-TERRORISM LAW TO THE YANKEE MILITARY BASE IN CHACO
In relation
to what was the practical implication for Chaco’s people to live with a Yankee
military base, TPR’s leader answered: “This is not about speculating but
referring directly to the facts. The Yankee base was placed with Capitanich and
Cristina’s permission and complicity, and it is, in fact, an occupation of an
imperialist army in the country. With the serious precedent, always keep in
mind, of the X Project with the gendarmerie and Mauricio Macri having to appear
in court for the spy ring to-state armed with “Fino” Palacios. As we can see,
systematic spying of fighters is in full force. This is a method used by
governments to intimidate the fighters and to silence popular protest against
the savage austerity. To make matters worse, directly responsible for the
installation of the supposed Humanitarian Assistance and against disasters
Center of the Fourth Fleet of the Southern Command of the U.S. army is Coronel Edwin
Passmore, a person nefarious to all people. In Passmore’s background, there
figures “humanitarian work” in the Afghanistan’s invasion and acted as
intelligence advisor to the Ministry of Defense in Kuwait during the invasion
to Iraq. Since 2005, Passmore served as military attaché at the U.S. Embassy in
Venezuela, where he was expelled because of spying activities in 2008. There
is, therefore, a military base led by an intelligence agent of the United
States in the middle of the country. And, if we add the implementation of the
anti-terrorism law by kirchnerism, it is evident that the Yankee base is a den
of conspiracies against popular struggle and the most basic democratic
freedoms. So, we are not exaggerating when we say that workers have to rebel
against the Yankee base in their own defense.
CHACO GOES UP IN FLAMES: AGAINST THE FISCAL
CRISIS, THE SPYING AND THE SAVAGE AUSTERITY, LONG LIVE THE FIGHT OF PENSIONERS,
PIQUETEROS AND THE POPULAR ASSEMBLY
Moreover,
Marino wanted to add that: “the crisis caused by the Yankee bases doesn´t
develop in a quiet place, but as part of a deep crisis, which is shaking all
Chaco. Parting from Cristina’s savage austerity and the deep fiscal crisis of
the provinces, Capitanich is looting the provincial retirement fund (Inssep,
has a debt of 400 million pesos) and cutting the budget of municipalities. On
Wednesday 23, there was a strike in the whole province and demonstrations of
state workers, teachers and health workers against the emptying of the Inssep,
conducted by the provincial government. Besides, there was a day of piquetero
struggle led by Polo Obrero with the workers of the meat factory Toba and
Textile Mide, who claimed job stability, salary increases, tenure of occupied
lands, payment of compensation to workers laid off, and the solution of
informal work, that affects textile and meat workers. This means that the
piquetero workers’ struggle stands up against governments that want to get the
savage austerity. At the same time, is well known that there is a crisis
between Radicals and Peronists, because of the already cut ‘revenue sharing of
soy’, which express the deep fiscal and political crisis that all provinces are
going through. The piquetero and workers’ fight stands up against the savage
austerity”.
THE ANTI-IMPERIALIST FIGHT IS A WORKERS, PIQUETERO
AND POPULAR FIGHT AGAINST CRISTINA’S GOVERNMENT AND HER PACTS WITH THE
IMPERIALISM. LETS EXTEND THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT TO THE JUST
STRUGGLE OF THE POPULAR ASSEMBLY OF CHACO
Finally,
TPR’s leader noted: “We that fight against the rate hike and the savage
austerity are facing the attempt of kirchnerism and governors to impose that
workers pay the capitalist crisis. Therefore, it is a task of trade unions of
health, state workers, teachers, left-wing parties, piqueteros and all fighters
to unify our demands and develop a great anti-imperialist movement to expel the
imperialism and to defeat government’s rate hike and savage austerity. In this
way, from the Revolutionary Piquetero Tendency, we pledge to promote for
national and international support to the just fight of the Popular Assembly.
With these objectives, we decided to participate of the journey and we invite
all workers to promote it”.

WE DEMAND THE REMOVAL OF THE YANKEE MILITARY BASE AND THE IMMEDIATE
SATISFACTION OF WORKERS AND POPULAR CLAIMS
We strongly
disprove statements made during the press conference of Capitanich’s ministers
and statements of officials of the Ministry of National Defence about the
military base that the Yankees have installed at the International Airport of
Resistencia.
Capitanich’s
ministers deliberately hid that the responsible of the installation of the
military base is Edwin Passmore. Passmore was reported by the kirchnerist
newspaper “Tiempo Argentino” in its edition of March 29 as an intelligence
adviser of the minister of Defence of Kuwait during the Yankee invasion in Iraq
and was expelled from Venezuela in 2008 for espionage activity. This person is
not here to provide civil protection but to develop an espionage activity
against the civilian population. Capitanich ministers contradicted Ricardo
Sanchez, head of the provincial deputies of the PJ (Partido Justicialista,
partido de gobierno), who admitted the existence of an agreement signed with
the Yankees during the governments of Nestor Kirchner and Nikisch and with
other provincial governments. Besides, it’s already circulating through various
means of communication like Al Jazeera and Perfil that the center profile is
set to allow flights of unmanned aircraft, called 'drones', which are used by
U.S. imperialism for years to bombard people the Middle East.
From Chaco,
we want to denounce that it’s a lie what officials of the Ministry of Defence
said in order of Cristina: Capitanich didn’t cancel any agreement with the U.S.
Military Group led by Passmore. The Yankee base remains with the full
complicity of the national government. It was the
national government in 2006 who initiated the agreement with the Yankees
through Anibal Fernandez when he signed the Program for Strengthening of the Provincial
Emergency System, the umbrella under which Capitanich built the base with
Passmore.
WE CONSIDER THAT THEY INSTALL THE MILITARY BASE
TO PERSECUTE AND TO REPRESS THE PIQUETEER, STATE, HEALTH AND MEAT WORKERS,
TEXTILES, ENVIRONMENTALISTS, NATIVES AND PENSIONERS
They don’t
only install the base because of the strategic role played by its location near
the Triple Frontier. They do it to persecute and repress
the fighters who fight against their plans to make us pay the fiscal crisis
that shakes the province. They install the base to ensure that Capitanich can
apply the austerity plan and the rate hike that Cristina is imposing nationwide.
While Radicals (UCR, a capitalist and pro-imperialist party) and Peronists
quarrel for the partnership of the state budget and the money-fond of soy, we
demand that the government complies with all the workers and popular demands.
The
Governor states that he has no money to satisfy all these demands. We require
him to open the books of all fiscal accounts, tax revaluation of land and
estates, taxing speculative profitability of the land, and implementation of a
progressive tax on property speculators. Workers don’t have to pay the fiscal
crisis, the capitalists must pay the crisis.
The more
than 36 organizations that adhere to this statement sympathize with the Nelson
Mandela Foundation against the systematic attacks of government, as this is one
organization that investigates and reports to the general public about the
processes of clearance in Chaco.
