[ARGENTINA] Historical election for Trotskyism in Salta: Partido Obrero got more than 20%

TPR’s Press Release

Historical election for Trotskyism in Salta:

Partido Obrero got more than 20%

The primary elections in Salta show that the left can be an alternative to kirchnerism

Juan Marino, leading member of Tendencia Piquetera Revolucionaria (TPR) and the Coordinating Committee in defense of the Left Front, stated about Salta [northern province from Argentina, TN] elections: “this is a historical election for all the left and trotskyism in particular. Partido Obrero (PO) got 20,85% for provincial deputies and 21,16% for provincial senators in Salta’s city elections. Claudio del Plá, head of PO’s list for deputies, was the most voted candidate in the whole election, overcoming all the internal lists of PJ [peronist party, TN] and also Romero’s candidate, Javier David [Romero is the right in Salta, TN]. PO only needed 5000 votes more to overcome all PJ’s lists put together, in city councillors elections. PO’s electoral results are 30% higher than the national primary elections in August and 100% higher than provincial elections in 2011. PO’s victory over kirchnerism and the right-wing candidates shows that, in these pre-revolutionary elections, the left can be an alternative facing the bankruptcy of Cristina’s government”.

COLONIA SANTA ROSA 2015: WE CAN CONQUER THE FIRST WORKERS’ GOVERNMENT IN ARGENTINE HISTORY

About the historical nature of this election, Marino added that “the main issue of the electoral result in Salta is that Partido Obrero won the election in Colonia Santa Rosa municipality, in Orán department. With 19,19% in councillors elections, PO is fighting for the majority in the City Council and if in 2015 gets the same percentage or better, it can conquer the municipality. This means that we are facing the chance of having a workers’ and left government of the bourgeois state for the first time in Argentine history. The conclusion of this election is that is timely to overcome peronist bourgeois nationalism and open the path to the first time workers can develop their own experience in practice with a real workers’ government. Thus, this is an enormous challenge for Partido Obrero, the left and the working class in our country. Such a workers’ government poses the need to achieve popular claims backed in mass demonstrations against boss parties’ boycott. We, the Tendencia Piquetera Revolucionaria, support the comrades that are at the forefront of this historical political struggle and we are at their disposal to develop it until conquer the achievement of all workers’ postponed aspirations”.

FROM COLONIA SANTA ROSA TO SALTA CITY, AND FROM SALTA CITY TO THE PROVINCE

Finally, the leading member of the TPR stated: “now the challenge is to develop this result in Salta City and in the whole province also. The PJ is a broken-up and bankrupted apparatus, what was verified in Salta elections: the 28,6% they got in deputies was the sum of 12 colectoras [different internal lists, TN]. No one of these 12 lists overcome neither PO nor Romero. The right is far away from PO. Here, it’s important to denounce the perfidious role of MIJD of Raúl Castells, which supported Romero. From Ramona Pucheta’s vote to the kirchnerist budget in Parliament to Castells’ personal support to Frente Salteño’s candidates [Frente Salteño is Romero’s list, TN], they have developed a whole experience against piquetero movement and became politicians for sale. On the contrary, the true piqueteros, that is, Partido Obrero’s ones, are a political reference that can turn the piquetero movement into a political alternative against boss parties. Let’s go for a big political campaign in order to make PO the first political force in the province. This historical election has to be a reason to overcome the million votes for the Left Front on October 27th in national elections and achieve left councillors and deputies in the Parliament and the local councils”.
