Freedom Socialist Party Statement on the sovereign debt crisis in Argentina
“Not even a dollar to the debt!”
July 9, 2014
The Freedom Socialist Party in the United States stands today with the workers of Argentina in your fight against vulture capitalists who would force your country into another murderous economic crisis. We join Tendencia Piquetera Revolucionaria and other organizations in calling on the Kirchner government to refuse to pay even one dollar on the national debt—a “debt” owed to the crooks and gamblers of the imperialist world.
These vultures—many of whom nest on Wall Street—deserve nothing but jail cells. They steal from the poor and oppressed across the globe to feather their nests. They are the reviled one per cent who control banks, judges, hedge funds, and governments in your country and ours.
Billionaire Paul Singer, who ignited the current crisis, bankrolls those in the Republican Party who launched the war against Iraq for oil. For years now, he has been fighting a war of his own against Argentina using the U.S. court system instead of “smart” bombs. The same week the U.S. Supreme Court refused to review a lower court decision upholding Singer’s demands, the nine person court ruled against impoverished U.S. healthcare workers and women’s right to contraception coverage if employers objected.
Clearly U.S. and Argentine workers have the same enemies, the same need for justice and a life with dignity, free of discrimination, war and want. For the FSP, your fight in Argentina is part our struggle here and visa versa.
Today we join you in demanding “Not even a dollar to the debt!” Tomorrow we will fight with you for a socialist world! ¡La lucha continua!
